HISTORY OF VILLA DE CURA

The city was founded on May 25, 1722, and it was Don Juan de Bolívar y Martinez - Simón Bolívar's grandfather - who founded this town on his property land located at a point called Cura. The grandfather of Bolívar took 30 families there considering this ideal place to live and seek sustenance through the work of the countryside, agriculture and livestock because of its pleasant climate and fertile soil.
It was fought for four years until finally the Villa de San Luis Rey de Cura emerged. Later on, for short, it was called Villa de Cura and many are those who simply call it La Villa. It is currently the capital of the Zamora Municipality.
Villa de Cura has been the capital of the Guárico and Aragua states, as well as another that existed under the name of Guzmán Blanco.
